Stock Seasonality Screener: How to Find Seasonal Stocks That May Be Ready to Move

Looking through seasonal data stock by stock can quickly become overwhelming.

There may be hundreds of stocks and ETFs entering historically favourable periods at any one time. The challenge is not simply finding a seasonal pattern.

The bigger question is:

Which of these stocks are actually worth watching right now?

That is where a stock seasonality screener can help.

Instead of manually going through hundreds of seasonal patterns, a screener helps narrow the market into a much smaller list of stocks that meet specific seasonal and price criteria.

At SeasonalVantage, we take this one step further with the SeasonalVantage Bot, a Telegram-based screener designed to surface seasonal opportunities that may be approaching an actionable setup.

What Is a Stock Seasonality Screener?

A stock seasonality screener searches historical market data to identify stocks that have shown recurring strength or weakness during particular periods of the year.

For example, a stock may historically perform well between early August and late August.

A seasonality screener can help identify patterns like this based on factors such as:

  • Seasonal start and end dates

  • Historical win rate

  • Average historical return

  • Number of years analysed

  • Bullish or bearish seasonal tendency

This allows traders to answer a useful question:

Which stocks have historically performed well during the current period?

But there is an important limitation.

A strong seasonal pattern does not automatically mean a stock should be bought today.

Why Seasonal Data Alone Is Not Enough

Suppose a stock is entering a seasonal window with a 90% historical win rate.

That sounds attractive.

But what if the stock is currently in a strong downtrend?

What if it has already rallied sharply before the seasonal window begins?

What if the broader market is deteriorating?

This is why I prefer to use seasonality as a way to identify where to look, rather than as an automatic trading signal.

The historical seasonal pattern puts the stock on the radar.

Then I want the current price action to give me a reason to consider entering.

This distinction is important.

Seasonality finds the opportunity. Price confirmation helps determine whether the opportunity is becoming actionable.

How the SeasonalVantage Bot Works as a Stock Seasonality Screener

The SeasonalVantage Bot is designed to reduce the amount of manual screening required.

Rather than going through the entire seasonal database one ticker at a time, members can run screens directly through Telegram.

Example: The SeasonalVantage Alpha Bot screening for equities that meet the current bullish seasonal and price criteria.

The Bot can scan for stocks and ETFs that are:

  • Inside relevant seasonal windows

  • Meeting selected technical criteria

  • Showing bullish or bearish price conditions

  • Beginning to display potential entry triggers

The objective is not to return the biggest possible list.

It is the opposite.

I want the screener to reduce hundreds of possibilities into a focused shortlist that deserves closer attention.

That makes the daily research process much more manageable.

From Seasonal Candidate to Trading Setup

I generally think of the process in three stages.

A screener result is only the starting point. Once a stock appears on the list, the next step is to review the chart and assess whether price is beginning to confirm the seasonal idea.

Merck #MRK is a good example. The bullish seasonal window put the stock on the radar, but the seasonal data alone was not the reason to act. As price began to strengthen during the window, the setup became much more interesting.

MRK example: The bullish seasonal window helped put the stock on the radar, while price action helped confirm that the setup was developing.

1. Find the Seasonal Window

First, identify stocks or ETFs entering historically favourable periods.

For the seasonal setups I pay closer attention to, I generally prefer patterns with strong historical consistency across a meaningful number of years.

This creates the initial universe of opportunities.

2. Screen for Price Confirmation

Next, the SeasonalVantage Bot looks for stocks where current price behaviour is starting to support the seasonal thesis.

Instead of buying simply because the seasonal window has started, the objective is to wait for price to show signs that the setup may be developing.

This can dramatically reduce the number of stocks that need to be analysed manually.

3. Review the Chart

The screener is not the final decision.

Once a stock appears on the shortlist, I still review the chart and look at factors such as trend, support and resistance, momentum, entry location and overall market structure.

This is where a seasonal candidate becomes either:

a trade to consider, a stock to continue watching, or a setup to ignore.

What If the Screener Finds Nothing?

Sometimes the SeasonalVantage Bot may return very few stocks.

There can even be days when a more stringent screen returns no results.

I do not necessarily see this as a problem.

A screener should not manufacture trading opportunities simply because we want something to trade.

If nothing meets the criteria, sometimes the best conclusion is simply:

There is no strong setup right now.

Being selective is part of the process.

The purpose of a stock seasonality screener should be to filter opportunities, not encourage overtrading.

The Broader Market Still Matters

Even when an individual stock has an attractive seasonal setup, I still want to understand the broader market backdrop.

SeasonalVantage members also receive curated options flow analysis across key asset classes including:

  • Major US indices

  • Precious metals

  • Energy

  • Bonds

  • Crypto

  • Hong Kong and Chinese markets

This provides another layer of context.

For example, seasonal data may be bullish and the stock screener may identify several potential long setups.

But if options flow across the major indices is strongly defensive or bearish, it may make sense to stay selective rather than aggressively buying every bullish seasonal setup.

The seasonal signal has not necessarily become invalid.

It simply means the current market environment deserves more caution.

What Should You Look for in a Stock Seasonality Screener?

A useful stock seasonality screener should help you do more than find stocks that historically performed well in August, September or any other month.

Ideally, it should help answer three questions:

What has a strong historical seasonal pattern?

What is in play right now?

What is beginning to show price confirmation?

That last question is particularly important.

Historical data can tell us where an opportunity has existed before.

The current market tells us whether that opportunity may be developing again.

The Goal Is Not More Trade Ideas

There are already more trade ideas than most traders can realistically follow.

The goal of using a stock seasonality screener is not to generate another endless list of tickers.

It is to narrow the market.

Instead of scanning hundreds of charts looking for something interesting, you can begin with stocks that already have a historical seasonal reason to deserve your attention.

Then use current price behaviour to decide which ones deserve a closer look.

That is how I use the SeasonalVantage Bot.

Seasonal data tells me where to look.

The screener helps surface what may be setting up now.

Market structure helps me decide whether I actually want to take the trade.

That creates a much more focused and systematic way to search for trading opportunities.

Find Seasonal Stocks Without Scanning Hundreds of Charts

SeasonalVantage combines a seasonal stock and ETF database with the Telegram Bot, curated options flow and market confirmation tools to help traders narrow down what may be worth watching.

The data finds the opportunity. The tools help you act on it.

For educational purposes only. Historical seasonal patterns do not guarantee future performance. Always conduct your own research and manage your risk.
